Hardcovers (aka hardback editions) are very popular for serious collectors and provide an impressive upgrade for minimal extra price. They’re typically comic books that are 64 pages or larger and have a hardboard cover instead of cardstock. We can handle any size and any format, including landscape editions and art books. Dustcover options and slipcases are also available. Printing on the cover itself is also available and can even be combined with dustcovers and/or faux leather to create an impressive product.

A very popular option among our clients is to simultaneously create a hardcover edition of their tradepapers. This lowers the overall cost and is a very effective use of the printer, as the TEXT (aka interiors) is the same for both versions. This is perfect for signed/numbered editions.

Paper – If you have a specific quote requirement for paper stock, we can accommodate your needs. Our default stock is a 105g glossy art paper for text (interiors). The hardcover standard is 128g glossy art paper, mounted on 3mm greyboard with matte or gloss lamination on exterior. Endpapers are 140g offset paper and dustjackets (aka dustcovers are 157g glossy artpaper with gloss or satin laminations. Foil and Spot UV are common features for hardcovers.

Page Count – Perfect binding is easily viable for 64 pages and higher without any issues. Under 64 pages, we recommend saddle-stitching. (See comics)

Sizes – We can easily accommodate any size. We’ve found that one of the best sizes to print at that is still comparable to standard comic book dimensions, while maximizing the presses for optimal cost savings, is 160x240mm.

Quantity – We can quote any quantity you desire, but we have found 1,000 units makes the most sense, and is the same basic price as any quantity below that threshold. This has to do with the costs for film/plates and shipping charges to average out for maximum benefit margins to our clients. However, we will definitely be happy to quote you lower quantities if you desire so that you can make that decision for yourself. We are also happy to quote multiple quantity thresholds, because as you know, the more you purchase, the greater your discount becomes – usually with astonishing price breaks.
