Canby’s Creepy Crawl Is Coming!

ree

It’s almost that time when downtown Canby transforms into a Halloween wonderland, packed with a colorful cast of characters in costumes of every kind. So bring the whole family and get ready for a spooktacular time!

This year’s Halloween Trick-or-Treat will take place on October 31st from 3 to 6 p.m.,

and per tradition, all your favorite downtown businesses will be open and handing out sweet treats to the trick-or-treaters. “The majority of the businesses on 1st and 2nd Ave. will be participating, with a few sprinkled in off of 3rd,” Tyler Nizer, the Economic Development and Tourism Coordinator for the City of Canby, says. “Also, we’ve noticed that other businesses throughout Canby want to participate (not just downtown), so we’re welcoming those folks to park on 2nd Ave. between Grant Ave. and Holly Street for a Trunk-or-Treat!”

Most would agree that the best part of Canby’s Halloween celebration is seeing the marvelous costumes, which range from zany and creative to dark and spooky. Canby Fire District and Canby Police will also be in attendance to hand out candy — kids dressed in uniform just might get an extra piece! Cutsforth’s Market will be welcoming trick-or-treaters at both entrances, and don’t forget to stop across the street at the Canby Public Library — every child will receive a free age-appropriate book.

One of the community’s favorite traditions is about to be underway –  that’s the 8th Annual Scarecrow Contest put on by Dreamworks Collision. Participating businesses will have their scarecrows set up on downtown street corners during the month of October, and folks are invited to vote for their favorite from Oct 14 through Halloween at www.dreamworkscollisionshop.com. It’s always a shocking delight to see the silly and sinister scarecrows! Three champions will be announced when voting ends. Last year, first place was awarded to Countryside Living for their Betelgeuse (Beetlejuice) creation that featured a life-like rendition of the ghoulish character sitting atop a gravestone.

Canby Christian Church is holding a Trunk-or-Treat in their parking lot on N Holly Street, so there’s an excellent chance you’ll go home with buckets of candy that’ll last at least until Christmas. It’s also the perfect chance to stop by all the shops and eateries Canby has to offer. “We can’t wait to see everyone’s costumes! It’s just a great time to come and spend time downtown with your friends and family,” Tyler says.
