Cornerstone Wealth Management: Canby's Local 'Ace'

Canby’s own Matt Stutes of Cornerstone Wealth Management was nominated for the 2026 NAPA (National Association of Plan Advisors) Top Retirement Plan Advisors Under 40 award. This national honor – NAPA 40 Under 40 “Aces” – highlights rising leaders in the retirement plan industry. Nominations come from NAPA firm partners and are vetted by a panel of senior advisor experts, along with a broker-check review.

Matt received the nomination for his work with providers on current retirement plans, and additionally on the growth of Cornerstone’s business: the amount of 401(k) plans and retirement plans that have been generated by the office. Matt points out that the work at Cornerstone Wealth Management centers around two main client groups: business owners, especially those offering 401(k) plans to employees; and individuals preparing to retire who need a comprehensive retirement plan. Being nominated for NAPA 40 Under 40 means a great deal to Matt because it recognizes his hard work and dedication to the industry and to helping people. “It validates that I’m having an impact — and that it’s being noticed,” he remarks. However, he believes the nomination speaks more to the office overall. He extends the credit to his business partner Mitch Magenheimer, and father, Chris Stutes, as well as the entire team at Cornerstone. “Without the team here, I couldn’t do nearly what I do,” he says. “I probably wouldn’t have the nomination without them.” 

Attracted to financial advising by his desire to help people, Matt joined Cornerstone Wealth Management in 2013, becoming licensed in 2014. “I came in working with my dad,” he says. “Learning under him and helping with his current book of business – he had recently retired after being in the industry for quite some time.” Following three years of extensive education and training, Matt earned his Certified Financial Planner™ designation in 2017. 

Outside the office, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife, Lauren, and their three children. He is active in the community as a member of the Rotary Club of Canby, and a varsity baseball coach at Canby High School. He fills any spare time with traveling, golfing, and catching a good sports game. 

Fun Local Fact: Matt played baseball at Oregon State University his freshman year before transferring to WOU (where he spent the remainder of his college career). His brother pitched for OSU baseball, and played on the 2006 and 2007 national championship teams.
