Stories of Resilience and Hope: Celebrating Woodburn’s Entrepreneurial Spirit

The City of Woodburn has launched a heartfelt storytelling project that spotlights their business community. “An American Dream,” which includes an introductory trailer and six-part video series. It highlights Woodburn’s local entrepreneurs and the journeys that brought them to this unique and vibrant city. “All of our lives are an echo of the past, reflecting those who came before us and paving the way for others to follow.” – An American Dream

Created by the City of Woodburn Economic Development Department, the series stems from an observation made over a decade ago by City Administrator Scott Derickson. He saw Woodburn as a hub for people to start their own businesses and create their own American Dream. City Economic Development Director Jamie Johnk relates, “I wanted to take that concept and help visualize it through this video series, and really show a side of our business community that people may not get an opportunity to see.”

The “American Dream” video series begins with an 11-minute trailer introducing viewers to the rhythm of the Woodburn community and why it holds such a strong appeal to local entrepreneurs. Through the stories of six local businesses, the series portrays how hard work, family values, and community spirit shape the City’s small-business culture. Highlighted in the trailer and featured individually in 30-minute episodes, the showcased businesses include: Elena’s Fabrics, Flomer’s Furniture, La Morenita Tortilleria, K-Bron Brewing Company, El Mercadito, and I&E Construction.

Proudly, the “American Dream” video series earned the Oregon Economic Development Association’s Exceptional Marketing and Promotions Award, a major statewide honor that celebrates innovative economic development efforts. The recognition reflects both the quality of the production and the city’s creative approach to showcasing its business community. Woodburn’s strength lies in its diversity, and every business contributes to a shared culture blending deep agricultural roots with modern industry and ongoing community growth.

Some members of the community may have seen the trailer during Storytelling Night at the Bungalow Theater on November 14, 2025. For those who haven’t seen it yet – or who want to dive into the full 30-minute episodes – the series is available online by searching, “American Dream Video Woodburn Oregon.”
